Calculator Use

Graphical, scientificand four-function calculators are allowed or offered for certain Practice (r) tests. Unless it is declared that a particular calculator is permitted for a particular test Calculators are not allowed to be employed.

Test takers are not permitted to share calculators.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless specifically stated that a specific kind of calculator is allowed or necessary for a specific exam, calculators can't be used in all Practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You can use a four-function or scientific calculator for your Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, though you're not required to do so. Bring your own calculator to the testing centre. One is not provided on the day of the exam. A graphing calculator isn't allowed during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted for Praxis exams:

  • Portable/handheld computers or laptops
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators are available on all phones watches, electronic devices
  • Models featuring QWERTY along with other alphabetic keyboards in the hardware or software
  • Models that print
  • Models that produce noise or "talk"
  • The models require an outlet
  • Models that are able to connect to the internet, as well as have wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models with a camera, scanning capability or digital audio/video player recording/player capability

In addition, use of any peripheral hardware is prohibited.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators that are supplied by test takers will not be allowed in Praxis examinations which have calculators on screen.

The following tests in the Praxis tests feature an on-screen scientific calculator. The tests are based on an TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is available so that you may practice using the calculator in the simulator prior to test day.

On-Screen Graphing Calculator

This set of test is a Praxis tests feature an onscreen graphing calculator. The tests make use of the TI-84 Plus CE calculator. An instructional video is available so you can practice using the calculator's on-screen interface prior to your test day.
